 October 7, 2008

President Craig Owens called the meeting to order with the following members and directors present:

Jeannie Moreno                         Becky Totten                           Craig Owens

Kevin Crowley                          Roberta Vasquez                       Sue Esquivel

Jeremy Meyer                           Vona King

A motion was made, seconded and approved to retain the current officers.  President—Craig Owens, Vice-President—Roberta Vasquez, Secretary—Vona King, Treasurer—Jeannie Moreno and Member at Large—Becky Totten

The Treasurer’s report listed a balance of $3,566.54.

Old Business:

Blue Jay cards—Craig will talk to the High School band tomorrow about sales.  Ms. Hutton will speak to the 7th and 8th grade bands.  Order forms for card sales will be duplicated and made available to the students.  Discussion followed about having $5 of each card sold being put into the student’s trip account.  Students in 7th and 8th grade as well as high school will sell the cards.  Juniors and Seniors who have already been on the D.C. trip may designate another student to receive their portion of the sales.  Tracking sales was also discussed.  Mr. Crowley keeps a log sheet with each student’s name and amount sold.  The consensus was that receipts would not have to be given if a log was kept.  Jeannie Moreno will establish a new savings account into which student’s fund raising money for the Washington D.C. trip will be kept. Jeannie Moreno made a motion that $5 of each Blue Jay card sold by students in 7th -12th grade be put into the student’s trip account.  Roberta Vasquez seconded.  Motion approved.  Five dollars of each Blue Jay card sold by parents at the last football game will go into their child’s account.  All band parents may help sell the cards.

Lori Hutton was unable to attend the meeting but phoned Craig with information about mum sales.  The Webb City band purchases mums from Jasper for $5 and sells them for $12.  The mums are preordered.  The mums are very large and pretty.  The Boosters felt it was too late in the season to pursue this fundraiser for the current year, but would consider it earlier next year.

The Coke fundraiser can be done several times throughout the year.

T-shirts—Becky Totten reported that T-shirts with one color ink could be purchased 2 dozen for $5.85 per shirt, sizes S-XL.  XXL-$6.85

Hoodies-- $ 16.60, XXL--$18.60

Long sleeve Ts $8.60, XXL--$9.60

She had a variety of designs for the Boosters to look at.  Boosters chose a combination of two designs to be printed in blue and black ink on a heather grey shirt.  The addition of another color of ink will add approximately $1.00 to the cost of each shirt.    T-shirts will be sold for $10.00.  A dozen T-shirts will be ordered for sale at games and samples of the hoodie and long sleeve T will be available for orders to be taken.  An order list was passed among the Boosters.

Reports:

The Car Show to raise funds for the Ambassadors of Music will be October 11 from 9:00-3:00.  October 21 is the 6th grade song flute and 7th grade band concert.

Mr. Crowley reported that Chuck Andrews of the Creamery did not charge for the costumes used by the drum majors in the Wizard of Oz halftime show.  Sue Esquivel moved to give Mr. Andrews a Wal-Mart gift card as a thank you.  Jeannie Moreno seconded.  Motion approved.

Everyone agreed that the original Wizard of Oz halftime show written by Mr. Meyer was extremely well received by the audience.

The stand cart will be ordered from Beckerdite Music for a sum of from $300-$325 depending on the cost of shipping.

November 15 Marshfield hosts the J.H. District Honor Band and District Jazz Band.  CD sales for that event are usually very good.  Mr. Crowley requested Band Booster help to package the CDs and prepare them for mailing.

The band directors would like to have a 60” flat screen TV for the HS band room and a 42” flat screen for the JH band room to assist in their teaching.  Uses would include watching band performances, examples of various Jazz styles for Jazz classes, marching band concepts, etc.  Boosters agreed with the need and asked that the cost of the TVs and a small sound system be investigated.  Due to previously encumbered funds, further fund raising would need to be done before the TVs could be purchased.

Mr. Crowley mentioned that he would like to have event T-shirts for the Marshfield JH Band festival available for sale this year.  Boosters agreed and discussion about a logo and whether or not shirts should be preordered followed.

Next meeting will be November 11.

Meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m.

Wednesday morning October 8, an executive decision was made to award monetary prizes to the top 3 students selling the most Blue Jay cards by the following Wednesday, October 15.  Prizes will be awarded at the High School and the combined 7th and 8th grade level.  1st place--$50, 2nd place--$40, 3rd place--$30.  Additionally, each student selling 10 Blue Jay cards will receive a free card for their own use.

Respectfully submitted,

Vona King
