This special meeting of the Band Boosters was called to discuss the current status of the Blue Jay card and prepare for distribution of the cards by August 29, the first football game. Craig presented a list of 14 sponsors who had committed to participation on the card. He will continue to speak with other businesses in an effort to obtain 4-6 more sponsors. He mentioned that corporate businesses need several months notice when being asked to consider participation. Many thanks go to Craig for his dedication in seeking sponsors for the Blue Jay card.
Kathy Taylor, JH librarian, is working on the computer layout of the card. Two rolls of laminating film from IPA Educational Supply and blue paper from Webster County Printing are being purchased to make the cards. Becky McGoon and her class will laminate the cards for us. Professional printing of the cards may have to be considered if the quality is not deemed to be good enough.
The cards are dated from September 1 to August 31 of the school year in which they are sold. They will be sold for $10.
Discussion turned to selling the Blue Jay cards. The goal is to have them available by the first football game. Parents are needed to help sell the cards at all sporting events. A list of parents willing to help can be compiled from the band commitment forms. A flyer advertising the card will be made. On the back will be a space where students can record the name and phone number of individuals who have purchased a card from them. Perhaps sponsors could keep some cards for sale at their businesses.
Discussion about developing individual student accounts for the purpose of fund raising for the Washington D.C. trip was held. When to begin the accounts, 2 or 4 years before the trip, and how to manage record keeping was addressed. This topic will be addressed at the September meeting. Members should think about giving half of the student’s Blue Jay card sales to the trip account. Mr. Crowley requested that a separate bank account for the Washington D.C. trip be established the next time the trip is to be made.
Craig handed out a spreadsheet detailing CD sales for the 2007-2008 school year. Total sales were $1,166.
Treasurer, Jeannie Moreno’s report listed a balance of $4,523.45 on August 19, 2008.
Craig also distributed a list of duties and records that need to be kept by the Band Booster treasurer.
Craig will also investigate if we would have to give a portion of food sales at sports events to the concession stand.
Discussion turned to getting recognition for the effort the students put forth at various events. A suggestion was made to consider T-shirts for band parents to show support for the band. This topic will be discussed at the September meeting.
Mr. Crowley will order the stand rack that has been approved by Boosters.
It was voted to schedule Band Booster meetings on the first Tuesday of the month unless there was a performance conflict.
Craig’s new phone number is 859-6238.
The next meeting will be September 2 in the High School band room at 6:00 pm. Election of officers will be held at that time. The meeting was adjourned at 7:02 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Vona King
