Marshfield Band Boosters

August 25, 2009

President Craig Owens called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with the following members and directors present:

Annette Lowe                         Vona King                              Lori Hutton

Craig Owens                           Cheryl Busch                          Greg Strickland

Sue Esquivel                           Toni Lorenz                             Jeremy Meyer

Mike Dowler                           Tim Busch                               Doug Burnett

Joy Burnett                             Normagene Reid

Craig passed out the treasurer’s report and an overview of last year’s fund raisers.

Old business:

At last report, three schools had not paid their portion of the Jr. High Band Festival fees.  Craig asked if that money had been received.  Mr. Meyer will check.

Two digital cameras purchased by the Boosters should be in the buildings, one for Jr. High and one for High School.

Last year the Boosters discussed purchasing, as funds were available, two flat screen TVs for use at the Jr. High and High School. Ms. Hutton reported that each room should be getting a projector and the TVs may no longer be needed.

New business:

Craig reported nineteen businesses had agreed to participate in the Blue Jay card.  A proof had been made, and Craig will be contacting each business to get its approval on their portion of the card.  Then, Mrs. McGoon’s class will copy, laminate and cut apart the cards.  The paper for this year’s card will be a different color. It was estimated that we had about 20 cents in each card.  The cards will be sold for $10 with $5 of that amount going into the seller’s trip fund.  It is hoped the cards will be ready to sell by the first football game on September 11.

Craig mentioned he began last May to attempt to get some of the franchises on the card but was still unsuccessful.

Mr. Meyer reported he had gotten school approval for the Winter Drumline to compete this year.  The percussion section needs an estimated $4500.00 in funds for equipment.  Mr. Meyer had talked to Bobbi Ragsdale at Webster Electric about possible help from their foundation.  Mr. Meyer will help with filling out the grant application.  The number of students who will benefit from the grant and ways the Booster Club helps the MHS band is some of the information needed for the grant.  Joy Burnett made a motion to create a bank account for the percussion needs.  Tim Busch seconded.  Motion approved.

Mr. Meyer also asked for help in obtaining a 501 C3 tax exempt form.

Mr. Meyer would like to purchase a small used electric keyboard.  Although used, it is in great shape.  The keyboard could be used for winter drumline, marching and jazz band.  Its new value would be $250.00.  Toni Lorenz made a motion to buy the used keyboard.  Sue Esquivel seconded.  Motion approved.

There was discussion about a Pay to Play, Pay to Go fund raiser for the percussion needs.  Insurance to keep from having a group come to play at your location could also be purchased as part of the fund raiser.

President Craig adjourned the meeting at 7:01 p.m.
