Marshfield Jazz Band Commitment Contract

The Marshfield Jazz Band’s history is characterized by a tradition of excellence with a state-wide reputation.  This is due to the hard work of those in the past, the high level of quality we expect, and the outstanding behavior and attitude of our students.  Because of these high expectations, we have the tradition of excitement and achievement to maintain and to build upon.

Each student is vital to the Jazz Band’s success.  Jazz Band is different than concert band in that Jazz Band, there is only one person per part.
Each part is extremely important and cannot function without the rest.  If a part is missing, then it affects the whole piece of music.   In concert band, there are many students covering each part, so if a person is absent, the band can still perform with little to no problems.  As a jazz band member, it is imperative that ALL students be in attendance at each and every rehearsal as well as performances.

Please take a look at the performance dates.  If there is a problem, please let us know as soon as possible.  We have already secured school transportation for this school year. Jazz festival registration will begin next month.  If we cannot go to a festival and have already registered, we will loose the $500 it costs for us to attend.  We have budgeted only for these festivals, so if we loose the money, we cannot attend another festival.  Also, most festivals fill up completely by the end of December, so if we don’t register early, we loose out.  It’s just how the system works.

Please look over the performance dates and secure them on your calendar.  Think about college auditions, family reunions, etc.  If it is a work conflict, then you must change your work schedule.  If you are in a spring sport, we will give up some rehearsals, but you must be at the performances.

Please look over the rehearsal schedule and secure them on your calendar.  Work will not be excused.  Please give your employer a copy of this schedule in advance, or let them know in advance about these rehearsals.  Also, if you need extra help with another teacher, please find another time.  They will be willing to work with you before/after school and/or choice time.

***Failure to make a commitment to the jazz band will result in being replaced***

These guidelines are set-up for the success of the group.  When everyone is present, great things can occur during the rehearsals.  When the rehearsals are successful, the performances are going to be outstanding.  Setting high expectations will get you very high results.  We all want to attain the very best we can.  In doing so, we will create an out of this world, top-notch ensemble.

v     Come to rehearsal ready to work!

v     Be on time every time which means be ready to begin playing at the start of each rehearsal (Jazz Band 1 - 4 o’clock during Sept, Oct, Nov; 3:30 the rest of the year)(Jazz Band 2 – 5 o’clock all year).

v     Have a pencil at every rehearsal.
