Band Ratings

The Marshfield Jr. High Band Festival was Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Marshfield Jr. High School.

This was the 12th year for the MJH Band Festival and each year it gets bigger & better.  Our philosophy is to maintain a positive yet constructive attitude towards young musicians.  We hope that this will be a learning experience for all that is involved.

Bands are scheduled at 25 minute slots.  Each band should play two contrasting pieces within that time limit.  The remaining time is used by one of the three judges to give a mini-clinic to the band.  We feel that verbal comments have more value than the written comments.  Even solo/ensemble judges are encouraged to give verbal as well as written comments.

Solos/ensembles are given 5 minute time slots.  Each school is scheduled in "blocks" in the s/e rooms.  This allows each director the freedom to rearrange his/her schedule in that room if they find it more compatible to their needs.

Ratings are given as such:

bullet

I - Superior, a very well prepared performance.

bullet

II - Good, on the right track, but still having some technical problems.

bullet

III - Needs improvement, doing some things OK, but lacking in technical skills and/or preparation.

Cost for each band is $60 and cost for each solo/ensemble is $6.  Every "I" or "II" rating Band receives a certificate and every "I" or "II" solo/ensemble participant (up to a quintet) receives a certificate.
